The Chevrolet Bolt EV is a five-door hatchback electric car produced by Chevrolet. It was introduced in 2016 as a concept car at the Consumer Electronics Show, and it is currently in production.

Overall, it’s a healthy range for an EV in this price range. In our testing the Bolt sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds which is pretty quick for an EV in this price range. You can easily merge onto the freeway or overtake when needed. If you don’t like using, the Bolt’s brake’s consistent and easy to control Single-pedal mode does most of the deceleration with regenerative braking.
We like the latter because it requires less effort and improves range. There’s even an additional steering wheel regenerative braking paddle for those who want to maximize energy recovery.
The Bolt responds smoothly to steering inputs without feeling awkward. Steering feel and feedback is good, and the car keeps going straight on the highway without the driver noticing. When the road starts to curve, the Bolt feels nimble and down to earth.
The controls are well-arranged, with a handy volume knob and tuning buttons to the left of the touchscreen. The transmission controls are now a row of buttons rather than the traditional shifter of previous Bolts, requiring quick adaptation.

The front seats now have adequate cushioning compared to the previous model. While we still think they could use more thigh support, they’re no longer a real pain in our backs on long trips. When the road is smooth, so are the bolts. The updated climate controls are simple and redundant, with physical buttons on and below the touchscreen. The system is responsive, and 2LT trims come standard with heated front seats and steering wheel. We also like Bolt’s quiet cottage. Wind noise is not an issue.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard. These smartphone-integrated systems are what the in-car navigation is all about, as no integrated navigation system is provided.
The touchscreen is large and responsive. Two front USB ports (one regular and one A USB-C) are standard, and when you jump to the 2LT trim, you get an extra port for rear passengers.
Forward collision mitigation and lane-keep assist are standard on the Bolt, and you get blind-spot monitoring and a surround-view camera system with the 2LT. Although we found adaptive cruise control (optional on 2LT) braking to Comfort when using the closest distance setting.
Given its size, the Bolt has plenty of room inside for small items. Front door pockets center console and glove box are enough. There is also a large phone cabinet with wireless charger and an open space in front of the transmission gear selector For a purse under the center console or something of similar size.
At 16.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats, the cargo area is smaller than the competition. But it’s still useful, and it also has a floor that allows for hidden storage, or, and it can be removed to carry larger items.

Testing the Bolt, A single charge is capable of 278 miles at a slightly higher efficiency of 25.7 kWh per 100 miles. While that’s a good result, the Hyundai Kona Electric earned similar range and efficiency ratings from the EPA, but outperformed its estimates beyond 300 miles.
The Bolt comes with an upgraded dual-stage charging cable that allows owners to switch between Level 1 (120V) and Level 2 (240V) charging. However, to take full advantage of the new Bolt’s more powerful 11 kW onboard charger (previously 7.7 kW) you’ll need a dedicated wall charger hardware as the included power cord has a maximum power of 7.2 kW.
Chevrolet gave the 2022 Bolt more padding for the front seats, upgraded interior materials and more features like adaptive cruise control and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
