The 2022 Kia Niro EV is an all-electric version of the gasoline-powered Niro Hybrid as well as a plug-in hybrid, the Niro (both reviewed separately).

A 64-kWh battery pack powers the front motor and provides an EPA-estimated range of 239 miles.

However, the Niro EV went 285 miles On a single charge in real-world testing, it’s one of the longest distances we’ve got from an affordable EV.

2022 Kia Niro EV Performance

Kia markets the Niro EV as a crossover SUV, but it moves and handles more like a small performance car. Plenty of power and smooth instant delivery. Our Niro EV tester sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds.

That’s much faster than EVs from rivals like the Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf, Although the Tesla Model 3 is faster.

Braking is smooth and consistent. The Niro offers partial one-pedal driving, but it won’t bring you to a complete stop unless you hold the steering wheel. Steering is direct but doesn’t translate much feedback from the road.

When the Niro is pushed, the suspension holds the car Planting and composition. While the eco-oriented tires offer only modest grip, it’s fun to drive this car fast.

2022 Kia Niro EV Interior

The Kia Niro’s interior isn’t anything to capitalize on, but we wouldn’t call it uncomfortable. Considering the price, the design and quality of the interior are OK.

The layout of the controls is ergonomic and there are some soft-touch materials at common touchpoints, But we’re talking about a car that’s priced similarly to the Tesla Model 3 which is a more premium car.

Considering the size of the Niro EV, this interior is quite spacious. There’s plenty of room in both the front and rear, with rear seats suitable for adults. Cargo space is good, but larger crossovers like the Volkswagen ID.4 have more starting prices.

2022 Kia Niro EV Exterior

Like many electric crossovers, the Kia Niro EV has a sleek nose that suggests it doesn’t need a traditional grille.

Other than that, it looks a lot like a hybrid version of the Niro. We think that’s a good thing because the Niro is a stylish little crossover that looks good from every angle.

The Kia Niro EV is similar in size to the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, but rides lower. The Niro EV is 6 inches longer than the Hyundai Kona Electric, which means more interior space.

We love the Niro’s ride quality. It smooths out bumps in the road without being overly soft or bouncy. The front seats are well-shaped and firm, but they don’t offer much adjustment.

Dual-zone climate control works quickly and evenly, and the rear vents are a welcome feature to a passenger. The Niro’s ventilated front seats for cooling are a rare and welcome feature for an EV at this price.

The Niro EV is very quiet, with little to no wind tires or road noise inside. At low speeds, the car emits a futuristic whir to help alert pedestrians. It disappears at speeds above 20 mph.
