It’s been a few years since the Supra rejoined the Toyota lineup after a long hiatus, but despite our growing familiarity, the 2022 Supra remains one of our favorite sports cars. In fact, it’s on our 2022 Editors’ Choice list.
Although it was developed and built with the BMW Z4, The convertible Supra coupe offers a different personality than its Bavarian sibling, even though both cars share the same powertrain.
The latter includes two turbocharged engines,Z4, a standard 255-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder and an optional 382-hp 3.0-liter inline-six. Both feed the back wheels through a snappy eight-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota’s cabin is comfortable and surprisingly premium, wheels mostly because it’s taken out of a BMW parts bin. The 2022 Supra also packs a ton of infotainment features and safety tech.
2022 Toyota Supra
Toyota has unveiled a new limited-edition interior for 2022 called the A91-CF, which stands for carbon fiber. Only 600 units will be produced, and CF, they will all feature a carbon fiber body kit rear spoiler matte black 19-inch wheels and red and black interior trim.
The A91-CF version offers three Exterior Colors: Phantom (Matte Gray) Absolute Zero White and Nitro Yellow. Elsewhere, the Supra gets standard heated seats in 3.0 models a new red interior scheme for the 3.0 Premium with optional JBL stereo and full-screen Apple CarPlay.
2022 Toyota Supra Price
While the four-cylinder Supra 2.0 hardly loses its driving emotion, we think the six-cylinder 3.0’s quick acceleration is worth it for most buyers. We’ll skip the Driver Assist package which adds adaptive cruise control blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping Helping this is more annoying than helpful.
Every Supra comes with a one-year membership to the National Motor Sports Association, as well as a free day at a high-performance driving event. Money saved by not purchasing the Driver’s Assist package can be used for additional track time and spare tire.
Toyota Supra Engine and Performance
All Supra models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. On the test track, our long-term 2020 Supra 3.0 put up some impressive acceleration numbers: 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and 100 mph in 9.5 seconds.
That puts it in the big league against Chevrolet Camaro Porsche Cayman GTS and BMW M2 Competition. In fact, it’s even faster than the vaunted fourth-generation Supra, powered by a sequential turbocharged inline-six with 320 horsepower. It’s a shame there’s no manual transmission, but hopefully not quite lost.
Rumor has it that the Supra will get support late in its production run. Despite the Supra’s performance potential, its suspension is forgiving enough to drive every day. Its steering is accurate, weighted and direct, enhancing its fun-to-drive personality.
Lower price, The four-cylinder model hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds on our test track. That’s faster than the Supra’s German cousin, price, the BMW Z4, which hits 60 mph in 5.0 seconds.
Toyota Supra Fuel Economy and MPG
The most efficient Supra comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with EPA ratings of 25 MPG city and 32 highways. The more powerful Supra 3.0 still has decent ratings at 22 MPG city and 30 highways.
This is more efficient than the Camaro Cayman GTS and M2. Superior On our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route, the six-cylinder Supra beat its highway rating at 34 MPG; with the turbo four, the Supra delivered an excellent 38 MPG. 2022 Toyota Supra Interior and Comfort
The driver-focused cockpit is compact and while the double-bubble roof provides some extra headroom, the tallest drivers will feel nervous. Cargo space is similarly cramped, but the cargo area (accessed via the hatchback) is big enough for a few carry-on suitcases or about a week’s worth of luggage Groceries worth two people.
In our testing, we managed to fit four carry-on luggage behind the rear seats. Much of the Toyota’s interior is shared with the Z4, so anyone familiar with BMW’s switchgear and infotainment controls will feel right at home.
Toyota Supra Infotainment and Connectivity
Speaking of the infotainment system, the Supra’s central display is an 8.8-inch unit with a very light redesigned version of BMW’s latest drive interface. The digital instrument display actually has a unique design compared to the Bummer and is standard across the range.
Navigation and Apple CarPlay functionality is available, but Android Auto is not available. A 12-speaker JBL audio system is optional, but given the Supra’s interior dimensions, we’d expect the standard 10-speaker audio system to be sufficient for most buyers.
2022 Toyota Supra Specifications
The all-new 2022 Toyota Supra is a two-seat sports car that slots below the four-seat GT86/Scion FR-S in Toyota’s lineup. It’s available in two trims: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium.
Both are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is the only gearbox offered, and it sends power to the rear wheels.
The range-topping Supra 3.0 Premium comes standard with adaptive suspension dampers and upgraded brakes and a limited-slip differential. It also gets larger 19-inch wheels wrapped in summer performance tires.
