The 2022 Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that has been in production since 2000. The Tundra was originally built to compete with the Ford Bronco and the Chevrolet Silverado, but it has since become a favourite among truck enthusiasts.

The new Tundra doesn’t offer the high-load or towing package advanced driver-assist technology or luxury interiors you’ll find in some other trucks. But it does spread a wealth of features and an excellent powertrain across all trim levels.
The 2022 Tundra has two cabs three bed lengths, two powertrains and rear- or four-wheel drive. There are six each in trim level and number of suspensions.
Each Tundra model has a unique grille, although the differences between trims may be small.
Think unique badge chrome instead of paint etc. While each grille on the Tundra is indeed chunky, the proportions are more akin to what you’d expect from a heavy-duty truck.
2022 Toyota Tundra Engine and Performance
The Tundra’s 5.7 liter V-8 has been replaced by a turbocharged 3.5 liter V-6. It makes 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, unlike the similarly-displaced turbo V-6 that Toyota’s Lexus division officials told me. SR level has one, A detuned version that makes 348 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque.

2022 Toyota Tundra Towing Capacity
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is an improvement over the outgoing Tundra, but they can’t touch the biggest package offered elsewhere. The 2022 model has a maximum payload of 1940 pounds, but up from the previous generation’s 1730 pounds but far less than the Silverado 1500.
According to SAE International’s J2807 standard, the 2022 Tundra’s maximum towing capacity increases to 12,000 pounds. That’s a healthy increase from the previous generation’s 10,200 pounds, but three games down from Detroit.
Available towing Aids for 2022 range from rear-mounted trailer lights on optional trailer mirrors to Straight Path Assist, which automatically steers the Tundra when backing up to keep the trailer on a straight path; it’s similar to the F-150’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist.
2022 Toyota Tundra Ride and Test Drive
The new Tundra shares the underpinnings with the redesigned Land Cruiser, an SUV for international markets but not here. That means a fully boxed frame instead of the outgoing Tundra’s rear C channel, plus rear coil springs in place of leaf springs.
Air springs and passive dampers provide acceptable no-load ride quality and soft impact, but with a level of wobbly reverberation on par with most other body-on-frame pickups.
The Tundra approaches very good ride quality in the light-weight Silverado and GMC Sierra, in large part because Toyota didn’t pair the adaptive shocks with big wheels and comfortable low-profile tires.
2022 Toyota Tundra MPG
With the non-hybrid system, the two-wheel-drive Tundra is rated at up to 18 MPG city and 24 MPG highway; all-wheel drive cuts those numbers down by 1 MPG each. Hybrid models are rated up to 20 MPG city and 24 MPG highway.

2022 Toyota Tundra Interior
Inside the Tundra is a chunky dashboard dotted with protruding air vents and a thick smooth centre section that connects to the door panels. The materials used on the centre console dash and doors are much better than those used on the previous generation.
All models have a versatile analogue console with lots of cubbyholes and a huge centre storage compartment. A pair of analogue gauges and a small driver information display are standard on the dash, The top trim level has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
The Tundra is available in two body styles and three different cargo bed lengths. Extended cabs are available with 6.5′ or 8.1′ beds. The Crew Cab comes with a 5.5 or 6.5 foot bed.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Almost every full-size pickup truck these days has a giant touchscreen of at least 12 inches—except the Nissan Titan. While an 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard on the Tundra, it can be upgraded to a horizontal 14.0-inch touchscreen,

It has a useful volume knob and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but no tuning knob and controls on the steering wheel are limited. Subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspots are also available.
2022 Toyota Tundra Safety and Features
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s previous-generation crash-test scores were mixed and didn’t carry over to the redesigned 2022 model, but the agency hasn’t released any updates.
Standard features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane’s Departure warning with steering assist. Impressive adaptive cruise control and hands-on lane centring, two features normally optional in half-ton pickups, are standard here.
Optional on SR5 and Standard Taller is a 14-inch touchscreen; other tech extras include a 12.3-inch virtual gauge a 360-degree camera system a heads-up display for wireless phone charging and two more USB ports.

Prices for the 2022 Tundra start at $35,725 for the base SR model and range up to $57,325 for the range-topping Platinum trim.
