According to the Maverick Truck Club the order pool for the 2023 Ford Maverick will open on August 16 2022. Production of these Maverick models will then begin on October 24 2022. It only takes two months from ordering to production.
However depending on the production and delivery dates of your order you may have to wait longer to receive your truck. Also because these dates are still a few months away they are subject to change. Ongoing semiconductor chip shortages supply chain issues and shipping issues could lead to delay.
Ford is in high demand for Mavericks. As a result it becomes difficult to keep up with current orders. Ford had to close orders for the 2022 model before production began for the 2023 model to catch up.
Is the 2023 Maverick worth waiting for?
If the 2023 Ford Maverick is your dream truck it’s worth waiting months. But if you want something right now you might consider the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. We’re not sure why this little truck isn’t getting as much love.
While the Ford Maverick Hybrid starts at $20,000 it can only tow up to 2,000 pounds and cannot be equipped with all-wheel drive. Pricing for the Hyundai Santa Cruz starts at about $24,140. That’s not much more than the gas-powered XLT Maverick that costs around $23,000.
The Maverick has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid system that makes 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. You can upgrade the 2.0-liter four-cylinder to 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.
The Hyundai Santa Cruz features a 2.5-liter inline-four with 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. You can upgrade to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo for 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque.
When properly equipped the Maverick can tow up to 4000 pounds and carry up to 1500 pounds of payload. The Santa Cruz can tow up to 5000 pounds and carry up to 1906 pounds of payload.
What’s new for the 2023 Maverick?
Expect the 2023 Ford Maverick to be mostly a carryover model that starts around $20,000. But as we get closer to the production date we might learn of some interesting upgrades.
Maverick fans are pushing hybrid models to go with AWD. It uses the same platform as the Ford Bronco Sport and Escape so we hope adding AWD will be easy. However the hybrid unit differs from the gas-powered model.
Currently Maverick offers the FX4 off-road kit. The kit does enhance its off-road capabilities but people want more. Rumors of maverick tremors circulated. We could also see new street racing trims.
